تتمحور الرسالة في مجملها حول اشكاليات هاملت والتي تتمثل في ضعفه الانسان وخضوعه لذلك الصراع ما بين الوعي واللاوعي. فنتج عن ذلك مفاهيم إشكالية مثل ”أكون ولا أكون”, ”أفعل ولا أفعل” , ” معرفة الذات والهوية الشعرية بين ما هي حداثي وما هو ضد الحداثة”, ”الدمج بين كل ما هو خاص وعام”. وتتكون الرسالة من مقدمة وخمسة فصول وخاتمة. وتدور المقدمة وهي بعنوان ”إشكاليات هاملت كنماذج حداثية” حول اثبات أن هاملت ما هو إلا نموذج حداثي بالرغم من انتمائة لفترة القرن السادس عشر, ولكن عقده وتردده وتأرجحه بين الإيمان وعدم الإيمان بما يدور حوله وداخله ما هي إلا إشكاليات حداثية. وبالإضافة إلي ذلك يدور الفصل الأول وعنوانه ”إشكالية هاملت في الشعر الحديث نظرة عامة” حول نماذج من شعراء الحداثة العرب والإنجليز وفيها تتبلور نماذج عدة من الشعر حيث يظهر بوضوح في هذه النماذج ذلك الصراع والتردد الذي لا ينتمي فقط لهاملت ولكن لمعظم شعراء الحداثة مهما كانت جنسيتهم أو لغتهم. ويتمحور الفصل الثاني وهو بعنوان ”أكون ولا أكون” حول مفهوم كل من شوشة ولاركن حول الحياة والموت حيث أنهما ينتميان لوجهين معرفيين مختلفين , فأحدهما مسلم ومؤمن بالله والآخر وجودي ملحد وبالتالي فان كل هذا يعلي من لغة المفارقة بين كل منهما. ويدور الفصل الثالث وهو بعنوان الىفعل واللافعل حول أسباب تراجع وتقدم الشعراء في أوقات كثيرة من شعرهما تجاه الفعل واللافعل أو كليهما. بحيث أصبح شعرهما مادة ثرية لمفهوم التردد بكل معانية. أما الفصل الرابع فيدور حول (المعرفة الذاتية والهوية الشعرية: حداثي أو لا حداثي) وفيه ناقش الباحث كيفية جمع الشاعرين لمفهومين متناقضين مع بعضهما البعض وفي إطار واحد وهما مفهومي ”الرومانسية والحداثة معاً” بكل ما فيهما من متناقضات تضفي على البحث ثراء إيجابياً, أما الفصل الخامس فيدور حول ”لا أحد جزيرة: العام والخاص” وهو مفهوم يجمع شعر الشاعرين بكل البشرية ويخصهما بانفراد رائع وهو الوحدة مع كل ما حولهما من مشاعر الحزن والغضب والنواح والاعجاب. فقد دمج الشاعران شعرهما بكل ما حولهما لكي يصبح مرأة للوجود وليس فقط للمشاعر الذاتية. وتأتي الخاتمة لكي تؤكد على أن شهر شوشة ولاركن ما هو إلا معكوس إشكاليات هاملت لكل هذه النماذج.

This dissertation revolves around human weaknesses and inconsistencies as represented mainly in the character of Hamlet, and with an application on the poetry of both Philip Larkin and Farouq Shosha. To achieve its target, this research is divided into an introduction, five chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction entitled ”Hamletian Problematics as Modern Predicaments”, the research attempts to prove that Hamletian problematics are totally modern in the sense that they are related to the conflict between the conscious and the sub-conscious of the modern character. Moreover, in chapter one entitled: ”Hamletian Problematics in Modern English and Arabic poetry: A General Survey”, there is a survey over those English and Arabic poets who have swayed in their choice in life due to having such Hamletian problematics. In addition, chapter two entitled ”To be and not be” discusses the first of Hamletian problematics ”to be and not to be” in relation to the poetry of both Shosha and Larkin trying to elaborate the differences in their visions. Consequently, chapter three ”Action and Inaction” explores the reason beyond human hesitation not in Hamletian terms, but also in Larkin’s and Shosha’s as well. Furthermore, chapter four entitled ”Self Knowledge and Poetic Identify: Modernist and Anti-Modernist” discusses how both Larkin and Shosha represent two different opposing trends in their poetry: Romanticism and Modernism. Finally, chapter five ”No Man is and Island: The private and the Public” goes around how Hamlet, Shosha and Larkin are to be one part of their surroundings by the end of the research, Every one laments, criticizes, and admires like many other people around him. They become one pot with the whole humanity. Then comes the conclusion to reassess all the arguments going throughout the research to relate between Hamlet, Larkin, Shosha to the whole humanity.
