في عالم يشهد تطوراَ سريعاً ومتلاحقاً في شتى مجالات العلوم الإنسانية. لم يعد هناك مجال للشك في أن هذه العلوم أصبحت تتسم بالتداخل فيما بينها. ومن هنا إنتبه الباحث لهذا التداخل وإتخذ منه نقطة إنطلاق لإعداد وكتابة هذه الدراسة. يهتم الباحث في هذه الدراسة بالشعر الأمريكي المعاصر حيث قام برصد التداخل بين الشعر الأمريكي وعلم البيئة. قامت هذه الدراسة بالتركيز على الإنتاج الشعري المتميز للشاعر الأمريكي المعاصر دابليو إس مروين، وأوضحت مفهوم الشعر البيئي وبينت إتجاهاته المختلفة. وقد جاءت هذه الرسالة في أربعة فصول بالإضافة إلى المقدمة والخاتمة. حيث طرحت مقدمة الدراسة رصداً للمحاولات المختلفة لوضع مفهوم محدد للشعر البيئي. بالإضافة إلى أنها قامت بتوضيح الفرق بين الشعر البيئي الذي يتخذ من علم البيئة أساساً له والأنواع الشعرية الأخرى التي تهتم بالبيئة وتتغنى بجمالها. وفي الفصل الأول تناولت الدراسة بالرصد والتحليل عنصري الهواء والماء من منظور شعري بيئي. حيث اعتمد هذا الفصل من الدراسة على تحليل وتتبع رؤية الشاعر للهواء كعنصر من عناصر البيئة المحيطة ليس فقط بالإنسان بل أيضا بجميع المخلوقات التي تعيش على الأرض. وأوضح هذا الفصل الوعي البيئي للشاعر وإدراكه للعوامل المختلفة التي تؤدي إلى تلويث الهواء وتأثير هذا على الإنسان. وفي الفصل الثاني تناولت الدراسة أبعاداً وعناصر أخرى للشعر البيئي لدى دابليو إس مروين وهي الحيوانات والوقت. حيث إمتد الوعي البيئي للشاعر إلى الحيوانات التي يؤمن أنها شريك أساسي للإنسان على كوكب الأرض. كما رصد هذا الجزء من الدراسة الوعي البيئي للشاعر بالحيوانات بجميع أنواعها. فقد صاغ الشاعر العديد من القصائد التي تناولت أنواعاً مختلفة من أشكال الحياه الحيوانية من طيور وحيوانات برية بل وتعرض أيضاً في بعض قصائدة للحياة البحرية. قدم دابليو إس مروين في بعض قصائدة بعض أنواع الحيوانات مستخدما الأسطورة. وقد رصدت الدراسة ملامح وخصائص مفهوم الأسطورة التي قدم بها الشاعر الحيوانات في أشعاره. هذا بالإضافة إلى أن الدراسه قد اعتمدت في تحديد خصائص الأسطورة الحيوانية في أشعار دابليو إس مروين على عمل مقارنات بين أشهر الأمثلة التي استخدمت الأسطورة في تاريخ الشعر والأدب الإنجليزي. ثم أوضحت الدراسة رؤية مروين للوقت وكيف قدم من خلاله التغيير الذي طرأ على البيئة والحياة الحيوانية. وبينت الدراسة التقسيمات المختلفة للوقت عند دابليو إس مروين من منظور الشعر البيئي وتأثره بالبوذية. وفي الفصل الثالث تعرض مروين لأخطر التهديدات على البيئة والتي تؤدي إلى الدمار الشامل لها ولجميع أشكال الحياة فيها. حيث تحدث عن حرب فيتنام وتأثيرها على النظام البيئي لكوكب الأرض من منظور شعري بيئي. أما الفصل الرابع فقد قدم تحليلاً للأساليب والصور الشعرية والتقنيات التي اعتمد عليها مروين فى نظم أبياته الشعرية. كما أوضح هذا الجزء من الدراسة تأثر الشاعر بأعلام الأدب والشعر الإنجليزي مثل تأثره بإليوت وباوند. بل إمتد هذا الجزء من الدراسة إلى رصد التطور الذي ظهر في أشعار مروين وكيف تحول من شاعر تقليدي لشاعر محدث يستخدم أساليباً ولغة شعرية تواكب العصر وتواكب خطورة وأهمية رسالة الشعر البيئي الذي إتخذ الشاعر منه مدرسة شعرية يقدم من خلالها أشعاره وأفكاره. وأخيرا جاءت الخاتمة لتعرض أهم الإستنتاجات والنتائج التي وصلت إليها هذه الدراسة.

This dissertation offers an ecopoetic reading and analysis of some selected works by W. S. Merwin. The conventional academic discussion of ecology and poetry is usually controlled and guided by theoretical terms. In this dissertation, the relationship between the two branches of knowledge has been investigated using an analytical approach. It locates an ecological consciousness in the poetry of W. S. Merwin and through this it foregrounds the relationship between language and environment. This dissertation has classified Merwin as an ecopoet and it explores the several factors and aspects of ecopoetry in his works. This study falls into four chapters, introduction and conclusion. Chapter one focuses on how Merwin depicts the air and the water in his poetry from an ecopoetic perspective. It also helps to define the relationship between human and natural world. The second chapter examines other two ecopoetic elements in Merwin’s poetry; animals and time. This chapter illustrates how Merwin presents his animal figures within the frame of a myth. This chapter also detects the relationship between animals in Merwin’s poems and the theme of escape from linear time. It also shows the impact of Buddhism philosophy of time on Merwin’s ecopoetic concept of time. Chapter three focuses on the fatal impact of the Vietnam War on the ecosystem. It also explores how Merwin unveils the American atrocities against the Vietnamese environment. The fourth chapter focuses on the aesthetics of Merwin’s poetry. It shows the influence of great figures like T. S. Eliot and Ezra Pound on Merwin’s poetry. It also establishes a notion called the visionary imagery pattern through which it investigates Merwin’s imaginary world. Finally, through the conclusion, the dissertation summarizes the findings and the results of the research.
